GO8589 community consultation

Bringing culturally safe GP care closer to home

Too many of our people are lost to illnesses that can be prevented. Moorditj Koort is applying for funding to grow our GP services in Armadale and Parmelia – and we want to hear from you.

Survey closes 14 October 2026

About the project

Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation currently funds our GP clinics from our own resources and Medicare income. To meet growing community need, we need more doctors, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and nurses.

Medicare income alone does not cover the full cost of our Aboriginal community-controlled model of care. Our model gives patients time to yarn, considers their whole health and wellbeing, and provides follow-up and support to connect them with the care they need.

Dr Umair, Dr Basim and our clinic team have worked tirelessly since GP services began in October 2025. A larger workforce would help us see more patients and give our team time to rest, take leave, be with family and continue their studies.

MKAC has been invited by the Australian Government to apply for funding (Project GO8589) to strengthen these services. Your voice can help us show why this funding matters. Please complete our short survey and share your experience. Your feedback will support our application to improve access to culturally safe primary health care for Aboriginal people and families across metropolitan Perth.

With this funding, we aim to:

  • 1 Grow our clinic team with more doctors, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and nurses at Armadale and Parmelia
  • 2 Connect GP care with our existing health, wellbeing and community programs
  • 3 Make it easier for families, children and Elders to get the care they need, without long waits or long trips
Diagnosing illness early can change the outcome of treatment. Too many of our community members are being lost too early in life. By building these services together, we can save lives.
