Day 1 – Wednesday 2 July 2025: Celebrating Leadership and Legacy

The first day of the conference set the tone with powerful keynote addresses from Patricia Turner AM and Hon. Meredith Hammat MLA, alongside moving cultural performances and success stories from across the sector.

A special congratulations to Moorditj Koort staff members Eric Colbung and Nakita Little, who were honoured for their outstanding contributions to Aboriginal health. Their dedication and leadership continue to strengthen our community and inspire others. Also local Indigenous Elder Doris Getta received the Elder Award, nominated by Moorditj Koort.

Key topics also included reflections on the sector’s response to COVID-19, showcasing resilience, innovation, and community-led success.

Day 2 – Thursday 3 July 2025: Healing, Connection & Community-Led Change

The second day centred on the themes of healing, mental wellbeing, and creating stronger, safer communities.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

Presentations from the Social Emotional Wellbeing Pilot and new Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) programs—led by inspiring women such as Irene Muthui and Rachel Radcliffe—highlighted the transformative work being done to support our communities.

Lateral Violence
Mick Gooda delivered a powerful session on lateral violence, calling for safer spaces and stronger support systems within our communities. The Youth Conference attendees also presented a bold and thoughtful statement, showing real leadership in their commitment to breaking cycles of harm.

Community Strength in Action
We also heard moving stories that highlighted the heart of our communities:

  • Mothers of Angels – a raw and emotional journey through grief, love, and healing.
  • Our Hearts in Our Hands – Balgo’s inspiring, community-driven initiative to improve heart health and outcomes.

Moorditj Koort is proud to stand alongside so many dedicated organisations, leaders, and community members driving meaningful change. The strength of WA’s Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector continues to shine brightly.
