Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health Service held a Wellness Day on Wednesday 13 July with a range of other health organisations set up on the day.
The Town of Northam held their annual official NAIDOC celebration at the Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environment Knowledge in Northam’s CBD on the foreshore of the Avon River.
The event started with a traditional welcome and smoking ceremony followed by the raising of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Australian National flag’s.
The event was attended by members of the local Aboriginal Community, local dignitaries, members from the Northam Constabulary and the general public. It was a good turn out despite the biting cold weather, although the ceremonial fire comforted many who sat around it.
MKAC staff were on hand to support the event and promote our services in Northam and the Wheatbelt. Of much interest were the Kangaroo sausages cooked up by the Bilya Koort Team.
Well done to those organising the event it was a very enjoyable day.
