MKAC and our partners won the WA DoH Award for Best Practice in Health and Wellbeing at the Institute of Public Administration Australia Awards 2022.

Working in partnership with Cockburn Integrated Health, Telethon Kids Institute, Telethon Speech and Hearing, Hearing Australia, CAHS, Drs Sim & Lannigan, SJOG Murdoch and Rockingham Hospital, the program provides timely, free and culturally secure access to ear health services to Aboriginal children.

Data reported nationally suggests that Aboriginal children are 5 times more likely to develop chronic middle ear disease than non-Aboriginal children. This can lead to hearing loss which impacts on speech development and subsequent learning delay. Aboriginal children referred to the Cockburn program are seen within a month as compared to the up to a 3 year wait in the Public Health System.
